Visit by Bishop of Reading
On Saturday 2nd April 2010 Stephen Cottrell, Bishop of Reading, visited Cornerstone. Bishop Stephen told a packed coffee shop about his latest book The Things He Said. This book looks at the things Jesus said to the people he met after God raised him from the dead. Ask most Christians what the first things he said were and you are likely to get a variety of answers or an embarrassed silence. It turns out the answer is both surprising and profound, although when you think about Jesus' characte
r maybe it's not quite so surprising. In his book the bishop paints pictures of the scene that lead the reader gently through the words of Jesus - encouraging the reader to reflect on the significance of what Jesus said. Words that reach out to those he encounters offering relationship, comfort, hope and reassurance. The book is ideal for Easter or Lent reflection and follows on from his earlier book The Things He Carried which takes a similar approach to reflecting on the significance of the things Jesus took to the Cross.
Copies of The Things He Said and Things He Carried can be purchased from Cornerstone.
