July 2026 News
Thank you to all those who came to our AGM, it is always a joy to meet together with our supporters and an encouragement to our board of trustees. For those of you who were not there, we reported on all the exciting things we had been able to do this year to celebrate 30 years of Cornerstone. I also shared three heart-warming stories which remind us God is still looking after us and that it is still important that we are here for the community. Unfortunately the financial report was less encouraging and although our café and bookshop are still doing as well or better than before, and our margins remain profitable, donations are reduced. We have always relied on a small but significant proportion of our income coming from donations and in the previous year, three legacy donations caused us to end the year with a surplus. In the year reported on, we received far less donated income and therefore made a loss. The good news is that since the AGM we have received a small number of donations and a number of our regular givers have increased their monthly giving. If you are a regular giver and are able to increase your monthly amount even by a small percentage, we'd be very grateful.

Use Your Talents
The deadline to add your offer the auction of promises will be 24th July. In August we will release the list of lots to bid on. You will have until 5th September to bid. There will be an evening event including a meal where the winners of each lot will be announced.

Karen Martin in Conversation
We are delighted to be hosting author Karen Martin on Saturday 22nd August to talk about her brilliant book Memorable Loss. Karen shares the story of her good friend Kathleen who was diagnosed with dementia and the book follows their friendship from pre-diagnosis to Kathleen's eventual passing.

This event will be free to attend.

Bookshop Film
If you have been reading our newsletter or following our Facebook page, you may have heard that it's the National Year of Reading this year so there are many initiatives to get involved in. The Booksellers Association have been highlighting more bookshops than ever on their social media and we were lucky enough to be filmed as part of that on Wednesday 24th June. When the film is released (likely not until the autumn) you will find it on the Booksellers Association social media channels.
Catering
If you are catering for an event, business lunch, away day or funeral, our buffet selection comes highly recommended. We provided homemade cakes & quiches, fresh filled sandwiches, all your favourite fillings, and we cater to gluten free or dairy free diets. It's great value and we can often deliver.
