Staff
All our food is cooked fresh to order by our team of part-time cooks. The kitchen team is led by our kitchen manager, Gilda, and the shop is overseen by our manager, Sarah Shewring.
Volunteers
Our volunteers are made up of people of all ages and come to us from all walks of life, from those just starting out doing work experience, to supported work placements for vulnerable adults, to young parents and those long retired! If you'd like more information about volunteering please contact the office or pop in and see us.
Can you help?
There are vacancies in all areas of Cornerstone and if you aren’t familiar with us, here is a brief idea of what each role involves.
Bookshop Assistants
The main requirement is to cover the till, taking both cash, card and voucher payments; to help customers find books, cards and gifts from our wide range of stock; to answer the phone and deal with customer queries. However, there is an opportunity to get more involved with the running of the bookshop if this is something that interests you - helping to order, manage and display our large stock of books, cards, gifts and Traidcraft items. But this is not a requirement for everyone!
There are a number of regular gaps through the week - and on Saturdays once or twice a month- for till assistants. You would normally work 2 – 4 hours a shift, which would usually include a short break. But if there is someone out there who would like to work more than 4 hours a week, then you would be most welcome, as this would make a real difference to the organisation of the bookshop.
Cafe Assistants
Your role will include welcoming customers, taking their orders, making hot and cold drinks and delivering food to their tables. Again there may be an opportunity, if it is something that would interest you, to help in the kitchen preparing food.
Wash Up Assistants
If you enjoy the camaraderie of working alongside other volunteers and kitchen staff but don’t mind mainly being left to your own devices, then this could be the role for you. Your responsibilities will include clearing and cleaning tables, using the dishwasher as well as some hand washing up. This is an important role in ensuring the smooth running of our cafe operation.
Full training will be given for all volunteers in their respective areas. Most shifts include a short break and if you work over a lunchtime shift, lunch may be provided.
We are also always looking for people who can help or advise us in the areas of PR and Marketing, Finance administration and Website design and maintenance. Although these roles are not confined to shifts and rotas!
If you are still not sure then please contact Cornerstone for either more information or a short visit. We are waiting to welcome you to the team and to continue the Lord’s work in our community.
